CPR & BLS Classes for Homestead

At 33 miles and about 45 minutes up Florida’s Turnpike, Homestead is the longest regular drive to PulseStart’s Doral training location of any area we serve — long enough that for most Homestead and Florida City groups, the better answer is having PulseStart come to you. PulseStart is an American Heart Association Training Site, and an American Red Cross and ASHI Training Center, and on-site AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPR/AED, and First Aid training is available at farms, packing houses, hospital units, and event venues throughout South Miami-Dade. Individual seats at the Doral location remain open too, for anyone who’d rather make the trip.

Farms, a speedway, and Baptist’s southernmost hospital

Homestead’s economy doesn’t look like the rest of Miami-Dade’s. Baptist Health Homestead Hospital anchors local healthcare with its own emergency department, but the larger employer base sits outdoors: Miami-Dade is Florida’s largest nursery-producing county, with growers concentrated in and around Homestead and the Redland. A few miles south, Florida City — a separate, fast-growing city bordering Homestead directly — shares much of the same agricultural and logistics workforce. Homestead-Miami Speedway hosts NASCAR race weekends and events through much of the year, each needing temporary vendor and security staff. With both Everglades and Biscayne National Parks less than ten miles away, outfitters running boat tours, paddling trips, and backcountry excursions round out a workforce rarely inside a building at all. Classes are taught in English and Spanish, which matters for crews where Spanish is often the primary language in the field or on the packing line.

First aid built for heat, machinery, and long field days

A farm supervisor’s emergency isn’t the same as an office manager’s. Heat illness, dehydration, and equipment-related injuries are the calls a packing-house or nursery crew is more likely to face than sudden cardiac arrest — which makes First Aid, not just CPR/AED, the course that actually matches the job for a lot of Homestead employers. Many book both: CPR/AED for cardiac events, First Aid for the heat and machinery incidents that are, realistically, far more common on a farm than in a Miami-Dade office tower.

For a crew, a vendor team, or a hospital unit, corporate and on-site training is where group scheduling happens.

The 33-mile trip to Doral — and why most groups skip it

The fastest route north is the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike; expect about 45 minutes with no traffic, more during congestion or a Speedway event weekend. That’s fair for one person needing a card. It’s a lost workday for a farm crew or a hospital unit, which is why on-site training carries more weight here than anywhere else we serve: instructors travel to Homestead and Florida City with manikins and AED trainers, and a packing house, breakroom, or hospitality suite becomes the classroom. Group certification timed to harvest, race weekends, and tour season

Homestead’s calendar isn’t a standard Monday-through-Friday, so group bookings tend to cluster around the area’s own busy seasons: ahead of harvest and peak nursery shipping, before Speedway race weekends need extra vendor and security staff, and before winter tour season brings more visitors to the Everglades and Biscayne outfitters. Scheduling a class ahead of the rush, rather than after someone’s card has already lapsed, is the difference between a planned training day and a scramble.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a certification option closer than a 33-mile drive to Doral? For a group, yes — on-site training is available throughout Homestead and Florida City, so the practical answer is usually to have PulseStart come to your farm, hospital unit, or venue rather than sending a crew north. Individual seats at the Doral location remain available for anyone who prefers to make the drive.

Does PulseStart travel to farms and packing houses for group safety training? Yes. On-site CPR/AED and First Aid training is available for agricultural operations across South Miami-Dade. Ask about scheduling lead time when requesting a quote through corporate training.

What certification fits a farm supervisor responding to heat illness or equipment injuries? Most agricultural supervisors book CPR/AED with First Aid together, since heat illness and equipment injuries fall under First Aid while CPR/AED covers sudden cardiac events. Either can also be booked standalone.

Can tour operators near the national parks get outdoor teams certified together? Yes — outfitters and guide teams working the Everglades and Biscayne National Park area can book group CPR/AED and First Aid training on-site, which fits crews that are rarely in one building during business hours.

ACLS and PALS are HeartCode® blended courses: the AHA online portion is purchased separately from the American Heart Association (currently $173) and completed before the in-person skills session. See the healthcare certification hub for the full breakdown.
